In order to get the NoBot control working, a developer needs to add a reference to two separate assemblies, Atlas and the Atlas Control Toolkit, as well as make a few changes to Web.config. Some developers will simply want a control they can simply drop in their project and start using right away.

Perl Spoof Script for HTTP_REFERER protection

[Free Webmaster Tools, Marketing Tips and Web Marketing Blog] Not claiming to know much about Apache & what it can do, I searched for hours and came up with nothing. The whole point in me modifying the referrer was to not show my administration URL’s in other webmasters’ logs, not to send referer spam across the globe & mess with website statistics.

[Like that Idea] I thought for sure we would get a strong showing of visitors here at Like that Idea when we posted in our blog Positive Proof Spammers are Evil. While our numbers jumped up a bit, the number of visitors still remained rather low.

Blocking access based on referrer...?

[Ask MetaFilter | Community Weblog] Note that you should only ever exclude certain referrers, not make a certain referrer a condition of entry. So it's fine to block 'posting.php?mode=newtopic', for example, but don't set it so that everyone coming there has to have a referrer from 'www.yoursite.com/[whatever]', as that will block legitimate traffic that has decided not to send you a referrer for some reason.

[Spamhuntress] SERVER ERROR September 4th, 2006 I checked a spamvertized domain (freshly spammed today from host168.canaca.com). It responded with this text: SERVER ERROR Trouble is, I saw that text in a text browser, that also transmitted the status code: 200, which means OK.

Plone susceptible to redirects

[Spamhuntress] One of the spammers targetting my site seems to have using Plone to place redirects as a favourite technique. I’ve been notifying as many affected sites as I can - glad to hear that the Plone developers have come up with a fix for the problem.

Akismet Lacks Essential Features

[Chris Pirillo] So, even though my Akismet WordPress plugin tells me that I currently have 2,402 potential spam messages in the queue, I can only view the first 150 (?) or so. I run into this problem even when I’m not on vacation, as I frequently receive 300+ spam comments overnight.
