Trackback Spammer
[ A Daily Rant] I think what I’m going to do is if a message is flagged as spam, go ahead and have it grab the tech and abuse contacts, the cidr range, and perhaps a few other useful bits, and include it in the notification e-mail (since despite my blacklist I had 24 attempted spams over night, and I don’t even have any readers!)Perhaps I could get a little IP blacklist going by cidr range.

Spam, lies and mailing lists
[BobStovall.com | internet marketing tips and tricks, tools, web hosting] A few months ago, I had a spam issue with Larry Goins, Real Estate guru, who was slamming me with spam sent to an email address of mine that he had no business having (I have kept the emails on record). The email address was never, I repeat never, given to anyone for any purpose and appeared only in the DNS (whois) records of several domains.

Referral spam
[jforsythe.com : weblog] It works on the principal that Technorati scrubs web and blog content in order to find links back to your content and thereby become the intermediary provider of 'approved referrals'. They hardly scan the known Web let alone the unknown, but I suppose it is better than the raw spammy world that exists today.

WordPress Optimisation: Block WordPress Referral Spam
[ Connected Internet] Matt: lets say my site was bobs-sexy-goblins.com and we’d banned goblins :P….i’d be told to f off and sent (back) to bobs-sexy-goblins.com, and your site doesn’t accept it, they dont see your site, apache is at ease oh and please don’t think i have a sexual infatuation with goblins - that was purely random and meant to be slightly amusing

Whats rel=”nofollow”?
[ On Influence and Automation] If you’re as picky as I am about approving comments, you only allow comments in your blog that add to the conversation. If one of my readers throws a link in there to a great tool or another post that may support or argue what my post is about, that site does deserve credit that they are being referenced.

Will an Army of Captcha-Solvers Be Unleashed on Web 2.0
[One Laptop Per Child News] But he said that the one thing that did give him pause was the possibility that rival blog spammers might start paying people in developing countries to fill in captchas: they could always use a bit of western cash, would have the spare time and, increasingly, cheap internet connections to be able to do such tedious (but paid) work.Feel that fear too? The horror in imagining a millions-strong army of OLPC-enabled captcha-solvers unleashed on Web 2.0, filling blog comments with spam that no automated filter could stop.

Wikipedia Adds Google nofollow
[Clickfire Webmaster News] Search Engine Journal has confirmed that Google methods of avoiding spam are being integrated into Wikipedia. The nofollow attribute introduced by Google in 2005 was originally intended to hamstring blog comment spam and has since been the source of much wrangling and discussion by SEO’s as to what exactly it does and which search engines have truly adopted the standard.

Blogspot Spam
[Dallas IT Support Blog: Architel] spammers are creating blogspot accounts and when you go to them they redirect to the real payload site (in my case, pharmaspam). Google ought to be able to help out with this. They own Blogspot, so I would expect that they should be able to shut down blogspot accounts that redirect to known spam sites. They would just need to leverage their Gmail filtering service.

[ Antwerp Calling] However, Wordpress is blessed with a most efficient robust distributed approach to comment spam: Akismet, which uses API keys to assign trust to nodes and has wide distribution as a result of being bundled with the 2.0 release of WordPress. Comment Spam on the rise
[Miles Blog - Thoughts and errata from Miles Burke.] As with email spamming and Usenet spamming in the nineties, blog comment spamming is on the rise as more people get easier access to the tools, and more lists of blogs, etc are made available. I haven’t seen statistical evidence, but I would assume the effectiveness of the actual spam, and the spams actually getting through to recipients or blog comment areas are in a reverse curve to these broadcast statistics, as more and more software tools for each style and type of spam get released.
