[Matt Cutts: Gadgets, Google, and SEO] Changed my captcha: You mean I have to put some thought into my responses now On a more serious note I have believed this to be the solution to comment spamming for some time; basic general knowledge questions such as capital cities (re-arranging the phrasing of the question each time), 3-letter anagrams etc.
[Simple Thoughts - Java and Web Blog] Review: Top 9 Wordpress Anti-Spam Plugins: By acting as a gatekeeper, it prevents spammers from delivering their junk, and in many cases, from even reading your site in the first place. This helps your site's load down, makes your site logs cleaner, and also contributes to prevent denial of service conditions caused by spammers.
[Holy Shmoly!] More ways to stop spammers and unwanted traffic: I, too have been plagued by spam (100,000 in one day), and tried to use this stuff. [Scatmania] OpenID For WordPress « Scatmania: No, I don’t use any complex arrays (by their definition) and by the OpenID spec, am never likely to, but I’d rather include the bigger, more powerful http_build query for completeness (so that people feel able to use it as http_build_query if they need to).
[Humanized Weblog] Humanized > Weblog: Battling Spam and the Ring of Gyges: There is a huge cost in deciphering (OCRing) images, no matter how simple they are, and I’m guessing most spam bots would not bother with it, especially if it is only for comment systems. Until recently SK2 has just worked perfectly for me almost never missing a spam comment - lately there’s been quite a few making it as far as moderation which is annoying but still not actually getting through.
[Holy Shmoly!] How to successfully spam blogs (and how to fight back): Another thing I’ve noticed is a trend with these human spammers, besides searching for “leave a reply”, is using the key term followed by comments or leave comments. The other day, I received a comment on a blog entry about bloggers getting ready for the holiday shopping season because the search query had “shopping + leave a reply”
[PaulStamatiou.com] WordPress Quickie: Ban Malicious Visitors ” PaulStamatiou.com: I use Spam Karma 2. Since I installed the newest version of Bad Behavior 2, which now also works with the wp-advanced-cache plug-in (small change required in one of the files, everything nicely described in the readme file) Spam Karma only logged 2 spomments anymore in almost 72 hours.
