Targeting Spam > Akismet, how I love thee

http://arapehlivanian.com [ara pehlivanian””Web Standards, Web Culture, Web Everything.â™] Fast forward to about a month ago and suddenly my post Proper URI design started to gain the attention not of fellow web-heads, but of spammer-freaks. Who knows, it could have been my immensely popular post on Coming soon to a theatre near you (I confess, I dugg my own post) that opened me up to the non-web-head crowd.

[Weblogs.elearning.ubc.ca] Weblogs@UBC: The spam wars had gotten ugly here at Weblogs@UBC lately — what was especiallly frustrating was that we were being feasted on by the same set of spammers, and the existing SpamLookup plugins were apparently powerless to repel their attacks.

[Mt.middlebury.edu] writing: Blog Spam: This first link is a blog post by the developer of the Spam Karma anti-spam plugin. He talks about how until now, the programmers behind all the spam-post-bots (almost all spam is created by automated programs, hence spam being an attractive proposition) have been largely "stupid", and thus their bots relatively easy to stop.

[Zzamboni.org] BrT » Site news: As of late, the amount of spam attempts on my blog has increased considerably. So far I’ve been deleting it manually (I have all comments moderated anyway), but it’s getting tiring, so I’ve just installed Akismet, we’ll see how it works…
