WordPress Comments and rel=nofollow
[Make Money Online Guide] My experience of owning blogs agrees with the above, most comments are indeed SPAM :-( So I fully understand why the WordPress developers have taken this step due to the plethora of blog comment SPAM currently plaguing the blogosphere, but it comes at a cost to WordPress users, real commenter’s no longer get a link back to their site and this is bad for blogging!

Do malware links to your site hurt you? « Totally Not a Blog
[Totally Not a Blog] Well, if you run any kind of blog, than you should at this point be well aware of the wall of spam that comes in every now and then and hits either the spam filter, or in the case of Google’s blogspot, they never seem to make it past the captcha. The point is that 99% of the time this spam will fail, and while I am sure that the 1% or less results in some money along the way, the real issued of the point is why do you do it?

[Chaka's World] My fitness blog also gets random comments from medical equipment suppliers trying to promote their stuff. Anyway, I would suggest that trying to advertise your business on Chaka's World in the comments section is about as effective as burying a billboard in the desert.

[TnT Unleashed 1pic4twenty Blog] Akismet, in particular, does a great job keeping many of the spam comments from appearing on blogs, but they still sit there in our moderation queue, and take up space on our server, until we go through them and delete them. We will always use moderation on our blog, as our blog is family friendly and many of the spam comments that we find in the moderation queue are certainly not family friendly, or they have links displayed that link to sites that are not family friendly.
