But at the same time is really not very good because 1: the file can become very large which will slow your site down, and 2: spammers change IP addresses frequently, thus the large htaccess file.

[Chris's Wiki :: blog] Our current threshold for calling something spam is 60 points or more.These numbers suggest that we could significantly raise the thresholdwithout having a material effect on our spam filtering; on the otherhand, since it would have no material effect there seems no reason todo it (other than possibly user perception, and I don't know if userspay any attention to this).

10 Things I Learned About Blog Spam in 2010

[BizChickBlogs] I often moderate the same vague and strangely-worded comments like: “Yes, I agree with told all above” or “Very interesting point that you make.” Even though these comments come from different usernames or email addresses, they’re clearly the same spam. I’ve become savvy to such generic responses and can now easily get rid of them!

Are You Noticing An Increase In Blogspam Too? | The Blog Herald

[The Blog Herald] Bottom line is that no matter what the reason why blogspammers are doing what they’re doing, the current practice I’ve adopted is that if it looks like blogspam, smells like blogspam, and acts like blogspam, then it gets deleted like blogspam. In this particular case, the current practice here is that if I see a whole bunch of comments that look the same, they get put in the same bin.
