Chris's Wiki :: blog/spam/AntiSpamHeuristicLimits

[Chris's Wiki :: blog] Setting aside all of the other reasons why these things may not be a goodidea, it is worth pointing out that the only reason that theseprecautions work now is that not very many MTAs are using them. In muchthe same way that spammers once used invalid domains in the envelopesender address and now almost never do (because large MTAs startedchecking that), spammers are perfectly capable of adopting to use validEHLO names and to only sending from machines with valid reverse DNS,if they actually need to.

Chris's Wiki :: blog/spam/ScanningMore

[Chris's Wiki :: blog] It's long since past the time when anti-spam content scanning systemsshould decode and scan all the encoded attachments of email messages,especially encoded plaintext ones. Most content scanning systems alwaysbeen willing to decode base-64 encoded inline text and HTML (it's sortof a basic requirement), but I don't think very many of them scanattachments.

[ongoing] A minor barrier for a spambot, but my feeling is that asuccession of minor barriers is the best way to fight back. The economics ofspam are such that everything you do to make your target a little morecomplicated and less soft discourages a certain proportion of the badguys.
