[Snook.ca] I have been looking for a method to block comment spam for a while, and though my developer partner and I have had some success, it is relatively limited. Our new CMS, Ministry(Starter), will have an Akismet plug-in, but it would be nice to have an in house system too.
Some related posts from Technorati and Google.

[movabletype.org - Home for the MT Community Comments] Shanx said: Thanks for the discussion Su. I didn't follow your ...: I still keep coming back to see what's up in the MT camp, despite all the CGI and spam woes, because of it's static publishing. My single most top priority because we run some hugely popular websites.

[www.christinawarren.com] Musings and Meanderings”¦: Doing lots of Google searches and searching the WordPress.org forums basically led me to finding lots of other people who have experienced that problem over the last 18 months or so (I was finding stuff from summer 2006), but there was no definitive solution, nor was there an explanation for why this was happening. For some people, it was something that was self-corrected, lending credence to the idea that it is a server problem, but then some other forum posters who seem to be active in the project said that Akismet won’t show you any comments that it “knows for sure are spam”

[vistadb for .NET Blog] VistaDB Blog - running with VDB3 files?: The WordPress installation here was performed before I took over VistaDB, and it has some issues with comment spam. Somewhere around 5,000+ spams per days were being submitted to the comment system at one point. The person who set it up turned off comments, but left all of them in the system. So I finally went through and manually deleted all 800,000+ comment spams in the mySQL database. Ugh, what a mess.
[BlogTalks] Blog comment spam: The point of blog commenting was for the readers of a blog to be able to provide feedback to whatever the blogger was blogging about. Whilst blog comments do have some value if we are honest most comments are either self promotional or just plain lame spam and deservedly ends up as Akismet fodder.

[Swank Web Style Blog] Beginners Guide to WordPress Plugins: Ive found that MOST spam comes in on your oldest entries, so this is a really great option. Otherwise anything tagged as spam will appear under Comments>Akismet Spam and you can check to make sure no real comments have gotten tagged.
[Geeks & God - Comments] When looking at any: It didn't appear to be the most flexible or widely used CMS, and it seemed somewhat less a "full" CMS than Drupal, Joomla and some others, but it reached further outside the blog structure than did Wordpress or Textpad (which is was similar to). I found getting a "basic" multifunction site up and running required more custom and web design experience than the others.

[Fromtheold] What a restaurant can teach you about blogging.: Maybe not on your frontpage but when reading a article on your blog people do not want 100’s of things in the middle of the content. Put it on the side and they will go there if they have the need to, but dont try to rub things in your visitors faces by shoving it in your content.
[Zen and the Art of Nonprofit Technology] Free and open source tool #5: WordPress: Because WordPress is so easy to use, people have twisted and turned it to make regular websites. I think this is generally a Bad Idea, since there are so many easy, good CMS tools out there (I’ll be naming a few in this series.)
[Blogging] Of the Iraqi Blogroll of Prime Minister Nuri al.: Yup, this is yet another list of the best available WordPress plugins. I?ve spent a lot of time investigating different WordPress plugins, and these are the ones I?ve found thus far to be the absolute best.
