[Aaron Toponce] However, the reason for Dave making Spam Karma GPL has nothing to do with Free Software, but more to the fact that he is no longer supporting the utility, and hopes by making it GPL, the community will pick it up, and run with it. I hope so too, because while I’m a major proponent of Free Software, I won’t run outdated, unsupported software either.

[kwjr.com] Spam Karma 2 is the other popular spam catching plugin. Akismet is occasionally accused of generating false-positives, so I’ll go with Spam Karma 2.

Spam Karma gone crazy”¦

Spam Karma Released Under GPL
[Zero to One-Eighty] Dave discontinues development of his anti-spam WordPress plugin and licenses the source under the GPL. I’ve been using Spam Karma, and Michael Hampton’s Bad Behavior, on this site for around two years to great effect.

Spam Karma
[Monkling's Blog] I’ve been using something called Akismet which has caught pretty much all of my spam before it even hits the page but I added something else called Spam Karma which I’m hoping will completely block certain IPs. I’m trying this new thing .

Plug-in to block spammer
[Blog Tutorial] Then, login to your wordpress admin account and click plug-in , activate the spam karma. After you have activate the plug-in go to setting and setting your spam karma.

[Comments for Andy Beard - Niche Marketing] Well, I started with Spam Karma and was happy with until one bad day came - my hosting provider closed my account because it was using too much of CPU resources, mostly because of DB queries generated by spambots and Spam Karma fighting them. Changing the hosting company isn't an easy task, especially when you want to get you site running again - I had to get rid of Spam Karma and switch to Akismet.

Spam Karma 2.3 rc4 update
[Standard Mischief] The only problem I’m really having spamwise nowadays is people who create actual WordPress spam blogs (splogs) and create actual posts actually linking to me. Ye Olde Spam Karma couldn’t tell the difference between a splog and a actual blog.

Spam Karma
[Smithology] A few people have hinted that it is difficult to get their comments onto the blog and perhaps it is spam karma causing trouble. There are a few things it does like making it harder to comment on old posts, treating you with suspicion if you haven’t commented before (and it keeps a score of your previous karma so once it gets into it’s head that you’re a spammer it can be hard to convince it otherwise) as well as the usual checks for spammy words, super fast commenting etc…

Help Please With Trackback Spam On WordPress Blog
[Connected Internet] I’m not using Akismet but Spam Karma. Spam Karma lists all comments that it declared spam in a list (20 default, but you can change that number).
