[ongoing] A minor barrier for a spambot, but my feeling is that asuccession of minor barriers is the best way to fight back. The economics ofspam are such that everything you do to make your target a little morecomplicated and less soft discourages a certain proportion of the badguys.

[SecuriTeam Blogs] SecuriTeam Blogs » Comment Spam: new trends, failing counter ...: Recently, there has been a serious increase in spam, coupled with the fact that it passes current spam detection techniques (such as black-listing for IP addresses and spammed domains, Javascript Captchas, number of URL’s in comment, key works - useless anyway, some user Captchas, etc.).
[Dave Shea's mezzoblue] mezzoblue § Borderline: At first I worried that people wouldn’t bother commenting - but then I realized that this acted not only as a spam filter, but as a filter to those sort of lazy comments that I’d rather not read anyway. Fortunately, I don’t get much problem with spam comments now (despite the comment processing script being the most-hit page of the entire site).

[Matt Cutts: Gadgets, Google, and SEO] Selling links that pass PageRank: I’m not too clear on whether or not Google are penalizing for backlink buying though as I say on the blog post, I’ve not been able to find any official line on this either way – my opinion is that it really doesn’t matter, it’s a waste of time so just don’t bother doing it, but a lot of the questions I’m getting about this are coming from clients who had hired SEO firms previously who were using a large number of paid backlinks without the client realizing –
