HTTP Referrer Spam Checker
[JasonLau.biz] Referrer spam is when a person or bot fakes a link hit from another website to your website. So, when your logging script records the visit, it records the referring website address, which is also faked by the spammer. Typically, the referral URL address leads to pornographic websites or those selling pharmaceuticals.

What's the best way to block referrer spam from my WordPress blog?

[GET]Footprints for Finding "Referrer Spam" Sites (Ping Mode in ...
[Black Hat Forum Black Hat SEO] So I went to use Ping mode in ScrapeBox (which is like PRstorm)...then realized that to use it, you have to have sites to plug in that are going to show the site you want to link to (your money site, or whatever) as the referrer.

TOPSITES Referrer Spam getting up my nerves | Share Commons
[Webmasters] There may be many who already know what I’m talking about, but for those who are still in the blues, when I say referrer spam, it means that when I check my web traffic, I see the referring URL of the website from where a visitor landed on my site. [Search Engine Roundtable] The technique involves making repeated web site requests using a fake referrer url that points to the site the spammer wishes to advertise. Sites that publicize their access logs, including referrer statistics, will then end up linking to the spammer's site, which will in turn be indexed by the search engines as they crawl the access logs.

Bing's Fake Referrer Spam Back, Now Hiding Referrer Now?
[Search Engine Roundtable] We had confirmed reports from webmasters that Bing was no longer showing up in the log files with fake referrers. But I am seeing a new report that the log files are showing Microsoft Bing IP addresses in them but without referrer data.

Update on Pingdom Referrer Spam (how now brownpau)
[Untitled] The issue, "Pingdom," isn't the crawling, it's the spoofed referrer in the headers. You say that pingdom.com/monitor/whatever.com will eventually point to a working page, but right now it just rewrites to the front page of Pingdom, a page which does not actually link to the site being crawled.
