Targeting Spam > The Blackboard » A different kind of blacklist: Spam.
[The Blackboard] The problem is that behavior is indistinguishable from spambot which often find a blog and return if they were successful at leaving comments. (The addition of moderating first comments will actually minimize this frustration for brand-new visitors because by the time they can get into rapid fire blog argument, SpamKarma will already notice an approved comment with a date that is not extremely recent.

[kuro5hin.org] Attacked from Within || kuro5hin.org: Reducing the number of full-time admins to do moderation reduces the proclivities toward the "iron law of bureaucracy" and toward user-moderation abuse. Like the above passive systems, a Robot9000++ could be set to identify general characteristics of comments that make them good or bad: not only originality, but also ideal length of the post (with diminishing returns after a certain point), presence of links, paragraph structure, and so on.
[A Fool's Wisdom] Movable Type 200% Open Source! | A Fool's Wisdom: The core platform between the two is, however, identical (in fact, right now, the only differentiator between the open source and commercial versions of MT are the support contracts and packs that come with it, which are closed source). I liken this to Automattic’s distribution of Akismet (which is closed source, the plugin may be OS but that’s hardly useful) and charging a commercial license for it (and I believe Automattic also offers support contracts for a price too).
[SOCIALIST UNITY] SOCIALIST UNITY » "TUSC" LAUNCH INVITATION ONLY ELECTION CAMPAIGN: Second of all, far from being “discredited”, the SNP in government has been, always everyone on the Scottish Left agrees, a positive experience. From their policies on immigration (turning away from the racist policies of the Labour Party), to ending the right to buy, to campaigning against Trident renewal, to their refusal to capitulate to British chauvinism in the Megrahi affair, to their defence of public sector spending…I could go on, but surely it’s revealed that the SNP is far from discredited.
[slackbastard] Australian Protectionist Party, Australia First Party, and the ...: Likewise, when the region warms to the APU idea, all the populations of our region will have to learn to submit local interests for the greater good- this may well result in “curbed sovereignty”
[Whatever] My Grammar Bitch For the Day « Whatever: This being the internet I think it’s well within my and anyone else’s rights to take five minutes out of our lives to tell you you’re a blowhard and a prescriptivist when you act like one (even with hamsters and photoshoppery and everything else), without being told to “get a fucking life.”
